AOL broadband now available via BT Line

AOL has announced new broadband prices for those who don't live within its LLU network.

Around 70% of the UK population can get AOL via its network. Now most of the other 30% can take advantage of AOL broadband too.

The popular broadband packages AOL Silver (up to 2 meg) and AOL Platinum (up to 8 meg) are £14.99 per month and £29.99 per month respectively via the AOL network. However via a BT line AOL Silver will cost £24.99 per month and AOL Platinum £39.99 per month.

The new AOL via BT prices are high - though if you sign up before 12/08/07 you do get one month free and a free wireless router worth £55.

To reflect these AOL changes we have updated the broadband checker on my broadband comparison website www.ukbroadbandfinder.com, so if you enter your BT phone number on the site you'll be able to see which of the AOL packages you can get in your area.

Netcraft measures and makes available the response times of fifty leading hosting providers' sites. The performance measurements are made at fifteen minute intervals from separate points around the internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24 hour period.

20 meg broadband for 29 pounds a month

Virgin Media's new offer saving £8 a month on cable broadband packages for a year means that if your area can receive their new superfast up to 20 meg broadband you can sign up to it for only £29 per month for the first 12 months. The £8-a-month discount is available if you sign up before 30/09/07. (After 12 months, the price reverts to the standard XL broadband price of £37 per month.)

They're upgrading users to the faster broadband speeds area by area from summer onwards. View the roll-out plan here. (The plan will be updated through the summer).

Anyone on their XL cable broadband broadband package will enjoy a free upgrade to the new 20 meg service once it is available in their area so you can still sign up to that and receive up to 10 meg for only £29 per month for 12 months if you want to take advantage of the special offer. (A few areas may only get up to 16 meg initially).

If you can't yet get up to 20 meg from Virgin Media and you just can't wait, check out the up to 24 meg broadband packages Be Lite for only £14 a month or Be Unlimited for only £24 per month (with free connection, saving £24, if you sign up before 31/05/07). Or up to 22Mb Unlimited Broadband from UK Online, which is only £24.99 per month (also with free connection, saving £25, if you sign up before 31/05/07).

Short contract broadband

Plenty of people don't want to sign up for a 12 or 18 month broadband contract.

If they're moving shortly and they don't know if they'll be able to get the same speeds (or provider) in their new location. If they're worried about cashflow down the line. Or if the've heard a million horror stories about ISPs.

Whatever - if you're a broadband commitmentphobe, check out my page on short contract broadband for homes and businesses on my broadband comparison website www.ukbroadbandfinder.com.

It includes ISPs Fasthosts, Be, Eclipse, and more - for home and business broadband.

Eclipse Business SDSL offer

Need a tough broadband service for your business? Eclipse has a great offer on its SDSL business packages.

Sign up for
SDSL 500, SDSL 1000, SDSL 2000 from Eclipse and enjoy free set-up and a free router with Eclipse Business SDSL - save £444! This free connection offer applies for a limited period until further notice saving you £315. Where applicable a free router applies for a limited period until further notice saving you £129. These are limited time offers.
View Eclipse SDSL now.

What is SDSL - and do you need it?
SDSL stands for Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line.
The symmetric aspect means that data can be transmitted at the same speed both up and down the line. The bandwidth requirements of an SDSL line, and the copper wire SDSL is transmitted over, mean that an SDSL line can only be used for data transmission (not both phone and broadband on the same line).

SDSL packages are more robust than, and more expensive than, ADSL business broadband packages. They are suitable for businesses that need a very reliable, high speed connection with good upload speeds (for example, for high-bandwidth services such as VoIP).
