Broadband provider Tiscali are offering cheap broadband - they have just cut the price of Tiscali Broadband Option 1 to only £4.49 a month for the first 3 months (then £12.99 per month).

This broadband package comes with:

• up to 8Mbps download speed
• FREE wireless router
• Unlimited monthly downloads (fair use policy applies)
• Free weekend UK phone calls (to 01 and 02 numbers.
• Some FREE weekend international calls

And all for only £4.49 a month for the first 3 months!

This is on a 12 month contract.

Broadband provider Tiscali has extended its £6.49 broadband offer until 29/04/08.

The package comes with up to 8Mbps download speed, free set up and a free wireless router.

It costs £6.49 a month for three months, then £12.99 per month, on a 12 month contract.

Tiacali TV bundles price cut

Sign up for a Tiscali bundle comprising broadband, phone and Tiscali TV - and save money.

Tiscali has cut the price of Tiscali broadband, phone and Tiscali TV Option 1 from £19.99 per month to £15.99 per month for the first three months (it then reverts to the standard price of £19.99 per month) and Tiscali broadband, phone and Tiscali TV Option 2 from £24.99 per month to £19.99 per month for the first three months (then back to £24.99 per month).

Choose a top 5 broadband provider

Epirito released its third quarter report on broadband providers this week. To come up with its top 5, it tests the ten biggest ADSL broadband providers (ADSL is broadband via your phone line).

The top 5, in order, for 30/04/07 to 30/06/07 are: BT, Demon, Tiscali, Pipex, PlusNet.

The surveyed broadband providers are measured against criteria for broadband speed and reliability. Performance is averaged out for the rankings, but they also provide information on which aspects different broadband providers did particularly well on, and how that might affect you if you have broadband with them.

• Tiscali achieved the highest connection speed
  
• BT had the fastest FTP and HTTP download speed - this usually reflects the speed of general web browsing
• BT and Pipex had the joint lowest packet loss rate - in straightforward terms, that is good news for VoIP users (VoIP is phone over broadband)
• Demon had the lowest percentage of connection failures in the second quarter which indicates that they also had the highest degree of uptime
• BT and Orange provided the lowest ping time average. This measures response rates to information requests. A fast ping time is generally good news for for online gamers

Virgin Media and more

Last year it was announced that the new Telewest, NTL and Virgin company would be branded as Virgin Media. The new company is soon to launch its products - heralding a year of fantastic entertainment and communications consumer offers from a range of companies.

Virgin Media will offer what they call a quadplay - of digital TV, broadband, mobile phone and home phone. For NTL / Telewest / Virgin this is a chance to put behind them the years of cable mergers and move forward with bundled entertainment and communications packages that benefit from the customer service Virgin is renowned for. Keep an eye out for the Virgin Media launch.

Companies are increasingly bundling together entertainment and communications products as it helps them attract new customers (one bill at a great price) and retain existing ones (especially as there are now so many excellent standalone deals around - BT broadband for £9.95 a month, anyone?).

Sky has got in quick with its new See, Surf, Speak bundle - over 100 digital TV channels, UP TO 8Mb broadband and free UK evening and weekend landline calls. All this for just £26 a month, plus a one-off broadband activation fee of £20 (plus £11 per month to BT for your line rental.) Find out more about SKY here.

Another broadband company soon to be offering TV is Tiscali as part of its triple play offering. One of the UK's largest broadband providers, Tiscali bought TV/video on demand/broadband/phone provider Homechoice last year and will be offering a TV service more widely in the next few months (it is currently offering it to a select group of customers only). Homechoice has only been available in parts of London and Stevenage but Tiscali TV should be available much more widely when it launches.
